Scruzzle Word - Revolutionary Word Puzzles

How to Play ScruzzleWord in Normal Mode:

A ScruzzleWord puzzle is a traditional crossword puzzle presented in a new way that is fun and extremely addicting.  No more empty white squares and lists of clues.  All of the letters in the solution are already on the puzzle.  They are just in the wrong place.  Vertical and horizontal clues are only available when you have found the correct place for a letter.   This not only makes solving the puzzle more fun, it also makes it easier to work with on a mobile electronic device.

Each crossword puzzle begins with four randomly placed yellow squares to help you get started.  To solve a ScruzzleWord puzzle you must rearrange the letters in the squares colored grey by dragging and dropping them to form words that solve the clues.  You may also tap on any two grey squares to exchange their letters.

If you have placed the letter in the correct spot, the square will turn yellow.  Once a square turns yellow, you may toggle or tap on that square to reveal the across and down word clues associated with that square.  The puzzle is solved when all of the squares are turned yellow.

ScruzzleWord is timed so that you can see how fast you solved the puzzle and can compare that with times posted by your friends.  The top three times for the puzzle of the day are displayed each day at ScruzzleWord.com.  You may also find it fun to form a small group and try to solve the puzzle together.  ScruzzleWord is a very social game.

How to play ScruzzleWord in Challenge Mode:

Challenge Mode presents a more difficult way to solve a ScruzzleWord puzzle.  You play ScruzzleWord in Challenge Mode the same way you play in Normal Mode except that in Challenge Mode, only yellow squares that are NOT touching any other yellow square, across or down, may be tapped for clues.  If you place two yellow squares together the clues will no longer display.

Hint for Challenge Mode:  Fill in words using alternate squares so as to create a checkerboard of yellow.  When you have most of the words figured out, fill in the gaps with the correct letters, and then solve the remaining words.

Challenge Mode is an engrossing and strategic method of play that will test your memory as well as your word-building skills.  It's a great way to enjoy your puzzles over and over again!!

How to play ScruzzleWord in Multiplayer Mode:

To play ScruzzleWord in Multiplayer mode you must first “Friend” the person you want to play with.  You do this by tapping the upper right corner of the Home page where it says “Friends ( # requests )”.  If you have a Friend request pending, the # is a number greater than zero and is zero if there are no requests pending.  A window will open and you will see if anyone has requested you as a Friend.  If you agree, then affirm their request.  If you want to send a Friend request to someone else, then enter either the Username or the e-mail address that the person is using on the ScruzzleWord website.  It must be the Username or e-mail address they entered when they registered on the site.  Only members who are registered on the site are eligible for Friend status.  Once they have accepted your request you will see them in the “My Friends” window.  If the indicator to the left of the Username is lit, then they are currently on the site.  If not, you will have to contact them and have them log onto the ScruzzleWord website.  Now you are ready to play with or against your Friends.

Multiplayer Mode defaults to the “Puzzle of the Day”.  If you want to play a different puzzle, select the puzzle you want by hitting the “ALL” button on the "Home" page.  This will display all seven “Puzzle of the Day” puzzles and any puzzles you have unlocked by purchasing credits including ESL puzzles.  Select the puzzle you want.  If you want to unlock additional puzzles go to the “More Puzzles” tab.  Next, to play with someone, hit the “Play in Multiplayer Mode with a Friend” button on the "Home" page.

A window will pop up displaying the puzzle number you selected or the “Puzzle of the Day”.  To play in Competitive Mode, select “Competitive” from the Game Mode selector pulldown.  Select the Friend you want to play against from the “Select a Friend” pulldown list.  When you have the correct puzzle, the correct mode, and the Friend you want to play against, hit the “Invite a Friend” button.  A chat window to your Friend will pop up with a message confirming that an invitation was sent.  A timer will start a countdown giving your Friend a chance to respond.  If your Friend does not respond within 20 seconds, the timer will stop and will give you an opportunity to send the request again.  Contact your Friend either in the chat window, by phone or by some other means to find out why they did not respond to your request.  Once your Friend has accepted, an eight second countdown will begin and then the game is on.  At this point ScruzzleWord is exactly the same as in Normal mode, except you and your Friend will compete to solve the puzzle.  Every time you move a tile into the correct spot you will earn two points.  If you move a tile into an incorrect spot you will lose one point.  There is a penalty for randomly moving tiles around, so if you are guessing, guess wisely.  You may use the chat window to communicate while you are playing.  When the puzzle is solved, the person with the most points wins.  You will each have a different color so when the eight second countdown begins, make sure you notice which color you were assigned.

To play in Cooperative Mode, select “Cooperative” from the Game Mode selector pulldown instead of “Competitive”.  Select the Friend you want to play with from the “Select a Friend” pulldown list.  When you have the correct puzzle, the correct mode, and the Friend you want to play with, hit the “Invite a Friend” button.  A chat window to your Friend will pop up with a message confirming that an invitation was sent.  Just like in Competitive Mode, a timer will start a countdown giving your Friend a chance to respond.  If your Friend does not respond within 20 seconds, the timer will stop and will give you an opportunity to resend the request.  Contact your Friend to find out why they did not respond to your request and then try again.  Once your Friend has accepted, an eight second countdown will begin and then the game is on.  At this point ScruzzleWord is exactly the same as in Normal mode, except you and your Friend can work together solving the puzzle.  You may use the chat window to communicate while you are playing.
